Contaminated Groundwater Remediation with the ALK. A. FIX – L

Industrial wastewater treatment – Smart Sea Srl successfully completed a contaminated groundwater treatment operation using the innovative ALK. A. FIX – L, a patented system for the treatment of water contaminated with complex chemicals.

Intervention area:

The target site was located in a former industrial manufacturing area in the Campania region of Italy. The groundwater contained high concentrations of heavy metals, chlorinated compounds and volatile organic compounds, and necessitated targeted and rapid remediation. The aim was to drastically reduce contamination levels and restore water quality in accordance with legal limits.

Proposed solution:

The ALK. A. FIX – L was chosen for its ability to act on a wide range of pollutants through a multi-stage process combining:

• controlled clariflocculation to promote metal precipitation;
• selective absorption through patented materials with a high filtration capacity;
• advanced oxidation for the degradation of resistant organic compounds.

The system is fully automated and modular to allow for precise adaptation to the characteristics of the effluent to be treated.

Results:

Monitoring before, during and after treatment showed a reduction of over 80% in the concentration of the main contaminants. Treated water is now compatible with re-entry into the natural cycle or industrial re-use, in line with the most stringent environmental standards.
